1998 Ford Contour SVT With 11K Miles Up For Auction

Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) created some truly special rides over its time in operation – some more well-known than others. One of the more obscure models to emerge from this performance-focused group was the Ford Contour SVT, an ultra-rare, more potent version of the now-defunct sedan that we don’t see very often these days. However, there have been a few nice, low-mile Ford Contour SVT models that have popped up for sale as of late, and that now includes this 11k-mile 1998 model year example.

Up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, this 1998 Ford Contour SVT was originally sold at Ed Witt’s Venus Ford in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and remained with the original owner until it was auctioned off on BaT back in May 2022. The car was then sold to its current owner the following year, and now, it’s up for grabs yet again, this time, with just a few more miles on the clock and no notable flaws marring its Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic paint. The Contour currently wears a set of aftermarket wheels, but the originals are included with the sale, regardless.

Inside the cabin, one will find Midnight Blue leather seats that are still in good condition, along with amenities such as air conditioning, cruise control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, SVT floor mats, the original AM/FM/CD stereo, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Power comes from the SVT-modified 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, which was factory-rated to generate 195 horsepower and 165  pound-feet of torque, flowing to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

This particular Ford Contour SVT sold for just over $25k a couple of years ago, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see if it can match or exceed that mark this go-round. However, it isn’t often that we see this particular model surface for sale, save for a 7k-mile 1995 Contour SVT that was auctioned off last July, as well as a 16k-mile 2000 model at around the same time.

We’ll have more cool auction finds like this to share soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Contour news and non-stop Ford news coverage.

  • Laughable. From the infamous "One Ford" era. You'd think they'd have learned, but not Ford. GM hasn't either.

  • My wife saw a 1999 SVT Contour in a dealer lot, had on the windshield, 200 HP + 143 MPH = Lot of Fun!
She decided that we should buy one and that was the only 4 door sedan that we have had in 48 yr of marriage. Other than a few SUV's and F 150's
We both competed in SCCA Solo II at that time, and she was the MidWest Div Champion in G-Stock Ladies class that year in Topeka, KS. And we live in Minnesota.

  • One of the few cars I regret having never owned. I keep debating one, along with a 1st Gen SHO, but cringe at the idea of finding parts to keep it running.
