The Ford Thunderbird debuted in 1955 as a direct Chevy Corvette rival – a two-seat, sporty convertible with loads of style. A lot changed over the ensuing years, as the T-Bird grew larger, and it wound up being discontinued after 10 generations back in 1997. However, the Ford Thunderbird returned to its roots as a two-seat convertible when it was reborn for an 11th generation in 2002. Since then, these later model T-Birds have become quite collectible, and that includes this ultra low-mile example.
This 2005 Ford Thunderbird has just 1,100 miles on the clock and is currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, where it’s looking for its fourth owner since it was sold new. None of those folks have driven the Torch Red model much over the past couple of decades, and as such, it remains in stellar condition, inside and out. In fact, there are no noted flaws marring its exterior or interior, meaning that it remains in basically showroom shape.
There are some amenities inside the cabin, which include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated and power-adjustable black leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an in-dash CD changer. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 3.9L V8, which was originally rated to generate 280 horsepower and 286 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.
This is just the latest in a long line of nice last-generation Ford Thunderbird models we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late, a list that also includes a 2002 model with a mere 54 miles on the clock. Additionally, we’ve seen a super rare Neman Marcus T-Bird sell for solid money, too – one that had just 190 miles some time ago, which later resurfaced at auction with 1,300 miles.
