Camper conversions are all the rage these days, as more and more people are figuring out that it’s nice to have a vehicle that one can take out across the country and also live in, temporarily, for the most part. Typically, these camper conversions are performed on large vans, but there are also quite a few oddball type builds out there that use buses or even military vehicles as the basis for a recreational vehicle build. That now includes this very cool 2010 Ford F-450 ambulance, too.
Up for auction at Cars & Bids, this Ford F-450 started life as a chassis-cab E-Series model that was subsequently modified into an ambulance by a company called Horton Emergency Vehicles. On the outside, that much is pretty evident, as this Ford F-450 still sports its ambulance body, but all of the decals have been removed. When one peeks inside, they won’t exactly find medical equipment, either, but rather, a full-blown living space.
This rig’s list of upgrades includes a folding bed, a Lagun folding table, a refrigerator, a butcher block-style countertop, a Greystone oven with a three-burner propane-powered stove, a shower, an Air Head composting toilet, custom-made wood cabinets, a five-kilowatt diesel-powered heater, a 40-gallon fresh water tank, and roof-mounted 600-watt solar panels. It’s a pretty cozy looking living quarters, in fact, and one that would be quite comfy to spend some time in at any campsite – rather indiscreetly, we might add.
We come across camper conversions like this on a regular basis, though most of them are based on models like the Ford Transit – whether they be discreet looking on the outside yet hiding opulent interiors. However, from time to time, we also discover some rather unique camper conversions such as this – and, notably, another Ford F-450 that was formerly used as a school bus.
