2025 BYD Seagull Refreshed For China With $10K Price Tag

Among all the many Chinese EVs on sale in that market and beyond, the BYD Seagull has been one that many have singled out, and for good reason – it’s a critically-acclaimed, brand new, all-electric vehicle with a price tag of around $9,700 in China. That makes it a screaming deal, of course, which is also why Ford CEO Jim Farley recently said that the BYD Seagull is a bigger threat to that automaker than potential EV mandates. Now, the 2025 BYD Seagull has debuted with a few updates and the same low price tag.

According to Car News China, the 2025 BYD Seagull is available in three trims – Vitality Edition, Freedom Edition, and Flying Edition. The first two are equipped with a 30.08 kWh battery pack, giving both 305 kilometers (190 miles) of range with a price tag of 69,800 yuan ($9,700 USD) and 75,800 yuan ($10,500 USD), respectively. The Flying Edition comes with a larger 38.88 kWh battery pack, giving it 405 kilometers of range (252 miles) for a price of 85,800 yuan ($12,000 USD).

2025 BYD Seagull - Interior 001

The 2025 BYD Seagull has received some subtle exterior styling changes, and gets four new exterior color options – Arctic Blue, Warm Sun White, Polar Night Black, and Peach Pink – as well as two new interior colors – Deep Ocean Blue and Dune Pink. It’s now equipped with power front seats, and rides on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. Output remains unchanged, with a single electric motor churning out 74 horsepower and 135 Nm (100 pound-feet) of torque across the lineup.

In addition to being sold in China, the BYD Seagull is also slated to arrive in Europe next year, though due to tariffs, it will cost around around €20,000, or roughly $21,500 USD. BYD is also reportedly eyeing Canada as its next market, all of which is precisely why Ford is concerned – even if the automaker doesn’t wind up competing with The Blue Oval in the U.S. In fact, the Seagull and other cheap Chinese EVs are what inspired Ford to create a low-cost EV platform of its own.

  1. Farley better have something in the skunkworks for this, this car will slaughter the American auto industry if it’s allowed here.

    1. Will Farley have access to slave labor, an exclusive monopoly on materials and will the epa not ban him from refining it? And will the government give him free batteries with stacks of cash on top?

      No?

Then what do you expect him to do? Skunkworks isn’t going to fix the billions that will be lost on an ethically-produced competitor that doesn’t make your hand numb when you touch it, or burn down a dozen dealerships in a few months time.

  2. Let’s not forget the “hit & miss” quality of China products. Mostly miss!
Basically, a throw away car, battery will cost more than the car is worth when it goes kaput!
If, by chance the car makes it to the US, it will be taxed so heavily that people will ignore it.
Farley has nothing buy HOT AIR.
