As Ford Authority reported earlier this week, the Timberline nameplate is seemingly on its way out, and will be replaced with Tremor variants of both the Ford Explorer and Ford Expedition. This move comes as a bit of a strategy shift following Ford’s decision to use Timberline for its off-road-focused SUVs, and Tremor for similar upgrades present on its pickups. Now, Ford Authority has spotted a 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor prototype for the very first time, which shows off some of those unique features.
This 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor prototype certainly shares many of its signature exterior styling cues with other Tremor models in FoMoCo’s lineup, including its orange accents covering portions of the front fascia, front tow hooks, and unique wheels – which are wrapped in more rugged tires – coupled with a set of running boards and additional lighting elements flanking the Blue Oval badge in the grille. Otherwise, the front fascia sports the same type of design we’ve seen on other 2025 Expedition prototypes, with thin LED signature lighting and a totally different look compared to the current model.
It’s unclear what sort of upgrades are present underneath the skin of the 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor, but it stands to reason that they could be quite similar to the outgoing Timberline, as well as existing Tremor models. The current Expedition Timberline is powered by the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 H.O., which produces 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, along with a two-speed transfer case, underbody shielding borrowed from the Ford F-150 Raptor, Trail Turn Assist, and unique wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires.
Moving out back, we get a good look at the split liftgate that’s also new for the 2025 Ford Expedition in general, a feature that previously debuted on its luxurious twin, the 2025 Lincoln Navigator. These shots seem to confirm that the Expedition will also be moving to a split liftgate as well, as Ford Authority exclusively reported a couple of months ago.
Along with unique styling features for certain trim levels – including the King Ranch – the 2025 Ford Expedition is also slated to get a revamped interior, too. Those updates include a new screen mounted atop the dash, along with a smaller (potentially 13.2-inch) unit in the center, which appears to be running the new Ford Digital Experience software. The steering wheel also sports a fresh look, while certain aspects – like the drive mode dial and other controls – have been shifted around as well.
We’ll have more on the 2025 Ford Expedition soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Expedition news and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.

That dashboard? Yipes!!!
I pray to god a ford designer reads this comment. Design language at ford has been declining the past few years especially with refreshes. This whole thing is a big yikes… Please study GMC/Chevy
Totally agree with that.
If I wanted a Tahoe/Suburban I’d go to Chevy and buy one. Darned if I will buy a Ford that looks like a Chevy. I’m on my third Expedition in a row but this will be my last. You really screwed up on this Ford!!
I wonder if this trim will come in the MAX version of the Expedition?
The Timberland trim level only came in the regular length Expedition.
They need to figure out that instrument cluster….that looks like they ran out of part and engery, after they redesigned the Navigator.
This whole thing is a disaster! HOW did this design get the green light? I don’t even know where to begin with this thing… reflector headlamps?? On a vehicle of this price? The rear end is so bad, I mean that is really, really bad! The interior looks like one of the worst yet from Ford. That horrid 2 tier dash with a ridiculous screen slapped on. Then another giant tablet front and centre. I really hope the Ford design team reads these comments.
Another expensive trim level with nothing exceptional about it. The total 2025 facelift is a disaster and a high dollar trim package isn’t going to save it.
I believe it looked better with the camo on it . They need to stop getting inspiration from GM, what a flop, Terrible Ford.
