2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Gets Optional Spare Tire

As Ford Authority reported last month, the 2025 Ford Escape ditched its standard spare tire for the Tire Inflator and Sealant Kit as part of the model year changeover. The spare tire is available as an option for models equipped with the 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost and 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost engines, however, and it’s still standard equipment on hybrid models, but this change came after the Escape lost its standard spare for the 2021 model year, only to gain a mini spare as part of the crossover’s mid-cycle refresh in 2023. Now, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is somewhat following suit.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup will ditch its standard spare tire as well, which will be replaced by the Tire Inflator and Seal Kit, while the spare has become an optional upgrade. For the 2024 model year, a spare tire was included as standard equipment across the entire F-150 Lightning lineup, so this is indeed a notable change.

In addition to this change, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is also losing its SecuriCode keypad as standard equipment, as Ford Authority recently reported. That feature was previously included as standard on the XLT trim and up, but has now become a dealer-installed option. This isn’t unique to the EV pickup, however, as a large number of other Blue Oval models have also made the same exact move in recent months.

That list includes the ICE Ford F-150, the 2024 Ford Maverick, and the 2024 Ford Escape. The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport soon followed those deletions after the keypad was optional on the 2023 Big Bend, and standard equipment on the Outer Banks and Badlands trims. Then, as Ford Authority reported this past February, the refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer became the latest model to ditch its standard SecuriCode keypad, also opting to offer it as a dealer-installed option.
