2025 Ford Maverick Lineup Ditches EcoBoost Front-Wheel Drive

After months of spy photos, rumors, speculation, and leaks, the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick finally made its long-awaited debut just last week. Aside from a new front fascia, the 2025 Ford Maverick has received quite a few notable updates, ranging from new technology features to the sporty Lobo to the addition of a hybrid all-wheel drive option. However, there’s another big change present in the 2025 Ford Maverick lineup that not many have really discussed at length to this point.

That change is the fact that customers can’t pair the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost with front-wheel drive – that particular engine is only available with all-wheel drive for the 2025 model year. For the 2024 model year, customers could choose to add AWD as an option for XL and XLT trims, while it was standard on both the Lariat and when paired with the Tremor Off-Road Package. Another interesting footnote is the fact that the MSRP for the hybrid and EcoBoost 2025 Ford Maverick models is the same throughout the entire lineup – meaning that Ford isn’t charging extra for that feature. In 2024, it was a $2,220 option.

The 2025 Ford Maverick lineup, as a whole, is still significantly more expensive than the 2024 model, however, as Ford Authority recently reported, though it still offers good value when compared to other models in the automaker’s lineup that pair the 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost with AWD, even if it has lost 12 horsepower year-over-year. The base XL hybrid and EcoBoost now start out at $26,295, which is $2,375 more than the 2024 XL EcoBoost model’s MSRP of $23,920, or $875 more for the hybrid, which previously started out at $25,420.

It is worth noting that the 2025 Ford Maverick does get more standard equipment than its predecessor, including – most notably – a digital instrument gauge cluster and a larger, 13.2-inch screen running SYNC 4. The Tremor isn’t a completely fair comparison either, given the fact that it has become its own trim level based on the Lariat, whereas before, it was offered as the optional Tremor Off-Road Package, which could be added to the XLT or Lariat.

    Fords not charging anything more because they’ve raised to MSRP so high it covers it. What this really says is that Ford is not using lube when you buy the 2.0

      Go by a GM 5.3 and then just wait for it’s lifters to find freedom from the truck.
      A much better product then this Ford.

    I traded my 150 for a ’22 Maverick. I was the design team that reworked the grills on the ’25 150 had been involved with the supposed face lift of the ’25 Maverick.

    I would ditch the Headlight flaps under the Headlights, I would change them for normal Headlights, like the colour and the wheels. Speaking of chances missed, what about a SUV.

    Where’s the tachometer?? Not a fan of this cluster design, it’s very similar to the Escape and Ranger. The Ranger version I was able to pull up a tach but not on the Escape Active model. Come on Ford really!

    To state that the 2024 was available as all-wheel drive in any kind of option shows zero knowledge of this truck. After that statement, you really can’t believe any other info this article has to offer.

      For 2024, the XL, XLT, and Lariat were all available with AWD, as stated in the article.

    The design team should revise the front end of the 2025 Maverick immediately before sales drop. What a mistake, the front end design ruins the overall look of the 2025 Maverick.

    It’s become clear in various media what Ford is up to for ’25. They’re decontenting the Escape massively to make it more appealing to buyers shopping at the bargain end, in fear of economic problems. But, they lowered the Escape price to a point that there was some room for it to RAISE Maverick prices and still have the base Mav be priced below the base Escape. Both are total busts. Why do we have to put up with this never-ending nonsense?
