The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo made its official debut just this morning – one day after the rest of the refreshed Maverick lineup – and for good reason. The Lobo is an attempt to bring back the sport truck of years past with a new model that sports a host of visual and functional upgrades, some of which even make it quite the competent performer on track. One of those components is the same seven-speed gearbox used in the now-discontinued Ford Edge ST as well, it seems.
That interesting tidbit of information was confirmed to Ford Authority by Dawn McKenzie, manager of Ford’s truck communications. However, the automaker has changed the name of that gearbox – in the Edge ST, it was referred to as a seven-speed automatic transmission only, but in the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo, it’s called the seven-speed Quick Shift transmission. Regardless, it’s the same unit.
This particular transmission actually made its debut in the Ford Focus ST roughly a year prior to the Edge ST, as Ford Authority previously reported. What’s particularly interesting about that gearbox is the fact that it’s physically the same as the eight-speed transmission that preceded it before the 2021 model year, albeit, with second gear being electronically eliminated from the equation – making it a seven-speed transmission in the process.
In addition to this unique transmission, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo also sits lower than the regular Maverick, and gets a special track-only “Lobo” mode, along with torque vectoring – which is made available through the pickup’s twin-clutch rear drive unit – plus specially-tuned steering, and dual-piston front brake calipers borrowed from the Focus ST. Additionally, the Lobo is equipped with the same upgraded cooling system present in the optional 4K Tow Package, with its larger radiator and fan, plus a transmission oil cooler. One thing it doesn’t get, however, is extra power from its turbocharged 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost engine.
We’ll have more on the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Maverick news and non-stop Ford news coverage.

I can not understand why they didn’t put the 2.3 from the focus RS in this, it’s horsepower at 238 now instead of 252 are even lower then the 24 model. If they honestly think people are gonna pay 42 k for these there f’n crazy. You can get a single cab f150 with a 5.0 for equal price
No one would buy a 55k+ Mavrick if it had the RS engine. They likely also don’t have an auto to handle the 350hp that fits in the Mavrick.
The 2.3 from the ranger would be a smarter move but still would be about 45k as a result.
Keeping the 2.0t makes the Lobo a street alternative to the Tremor. Both are cooling/suspension/wheel packages. Only the Tremor gets off-road plates and the Lobo get better brakes.
That said both packages should have been bumped to 252HP like the Focus ST.
This article says it uses the Edge STs transmission which has 335hp and supports more big they used the 2.3L from the 2024 Mustang it would make 315 hp which would be fine. Hopefully this has low sales and they revise quickly and actually give it more HP then every other model.
Also similar options on a f150 5.0 is like 50-54k.
I just built one on the ford configurator it was 39 k. Ya I do not want similar options I want speed. That’s cheaper than a lobo. Like I said they will probably sell a few but I don’t think we will see to many out there.
Ford is still selling EVERY mav it can make, many with a dealer markup and wait lists. Added power or not, this will sell. And pretty well at that. Ford has the “ST Line” in other models, which is all the looks of the ST model, without the performance. And if I am not mistaken, it sells better than the full on ST models. Sport truck F150 buyers aren’t looking at Maverick and Mav Lobo buyers likely don’t want a full size truck. A Ranger “Lobo” would be a nice offering though. Raptor performance goodies without the off road suspension stuff. The Ranger Raptor is already a pretty good “bargain” relatively speaking compared to the other Raptors in the stable, But offer it with a sport truck theme, lowered suspension, and the same AWD capable t-case. It would be a badass rig
