347-Powered 1985 Ford Mustang LX SSP Up For Auction

The Ford Mustang SSP – or Special Service Package, as it’s otherwise known – was in production for many years as part of the pony car’s Fox Body generation, and made quite the impression on law enforcement over that timeframe. The Ford Mustang SSP also became well-known among the many folks that tried to evade one out on the highway, as it was rather good at high-speed pursuits, too. Now, a very cool 1985 Ford Mustang LX SSP is up for auction – albeit with some modifications.

This 1985 Ford Mustang SSP is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer after spending some time in Oregon, Washington, California, and Arizona, the latter state being where it currently resides. On the outside, it’s finished in black paint with plenty of clues that it’s a police-focused cruiser, including a driver-side spotlight, red and blue lights in the grille, a trio of antennas, and 15-inch black wheels with chrome hub caps.

The interior of this former law enforcement vehicle features gray cloth seats, a three-spoke aftermarket steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows, a JVC CD stereo, and a police scanner, along with a Carson SC-407 siren control unit. However, it certainly isn’t stock under the hood, where one will find a 347 cubic-inch Roush V8 that was installed back in 2003. The crate engine is fitted with a Holley HP electronic fuel injection system and JBA headers, and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission with a Centerforce clutch.

These days, we certainly don’t seem too many Ford Mustang SSP models out in the wild, particularly at auction or up for sale to the public. However, it was just a few years ago when the Nebraska State Patrol was still using its 1993 Mustang SSP on duty, and a former Florida patrol car went up for grabs a little over four years ago in its original livery as well.
