Buescher Confident No. 17 NASCAR Ford Will Make Title Fight

Chris Buescher, driver of the No. 17 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse, has been a consistent frontrunner throughout the 2024 Cup Series season, but he doesn’t have a victory this year to show for it. While he’s still in contention to make the Playoffs – the 16-driver field of competitors who are invited to compete for the overall title – he would love nothing more than to win to get himself locked in.

According to Motorsport, Buescher’s contention in the Playoffs could very well be determined by points, but he’s itching for a win. He’s currently 15th in the field of 16 drivers, holding 10 points over last-place Ross Chastain, who drives the No. 1 Chevy Camaro ZL1.

“I’m not nervous about it,” Buescher said. “I’m pretty adamant about it – I don’t want to change the way we approach our races. I’ve just seen it too many times in our sport where you try and get put back on your heels and change up what you’re doing, and it can end up costing you.”

He added, “We’ve got to race our races, put our best foot forward and that should be enough to get us where we need to go. “We’ve got to be aware (of the points), but it’s not something that we’re up in arms about or worried about.”

Odds are, if Buescher holds steady and just keeps doing what he’s already doing, he’ll make it into the Playoffs on a win. The four tracks that stand between the field and the postseason Playoffs are Richmond, Michigan, Daytona, and Darlington. Last year, Buescher won at three of them, sweeping Richmond, Michigan, and Daytona.

With that in mind, his odds of winning over the next month are quite high, so he might be right. There may be no reason for him to be nervous, and he might have a shot at the title after all.
