We’ve certainly seen our fair share of Coyote-powered Ford vehicles of various vintages surface for sale over the years, which makes quite a bit of sense – after all, that modern-day engine is a great way to add power, reliability, and ease of maintenance to any number of older models. However, sticking a 5.0L V8 Coyote powerplant in something more modern – particularly smaller, lightweight machines – is also a great recipe for fun, which is what this 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 has to offer.
This Coyote-swapped 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 was built by Troy Seyfer of Seyfer Specialties in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and subsequently displayed at the SEMA show years ago. Now, it’s up for grabs at Bring a Trailer after it was just sold by Seyfer earlier this year, giving someone else the chance to bring it home. It’s still in pretty excellent condition as well, sporting RS-style bodywork, a custom steel cowl-induction hood, a rear spoiler, a Mustang fuel filler door, and 19-inch five spoke wheels wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza RE71 tires.
The interior has received its own fair share of upgrades that include a roll cage, Recaro seats, G-Force Racing front harnesses, aluminum pedals, a Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system, and Dakota Digital gauges. The real appeal of this Ford Focus lies underneath, however, where one will find the aforementioned Coyote V8, which is topped by a 3.0L Whipple supercharger, helping it crank out 611 horsepower and 514 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. That power flows to the rear wheels via a Tremec T45 five-speed manual transmission, a custom Watts link rear suspension, and and an 8.8-inch rear end with a 3.73:1 Eaton Tru Trac limited-slip differential.
This is just one of many Coyote-swapped Ford models we’ve seen pop up for auction recently, though in most cases, those were rides of a much older vintage. They include a 1957 Ford Custom 300, a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura, and a 1949 Ford Tudor, to name just a few.
