The first-generation Ford Bronco restomod market has been on fire for quite a few years now, and it seems as if plenty of folks are more than happy to line up and pay big bucks for the privilege of owning one. Though there are quite a few different companies that build such machines, many of them share several things in common – most are lifted with cut fenders, modern wheels with large tires, fancy interior amenities, and of course, 5.0L V8 Coyote swaps. However, that isn’t the case with this 1972 Ford Bronco.
Rather, this 1972 Ford Bronco – which is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer – is equipped with the twin turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost powerplant, making it rather unique amid a sea of similar builds. That modern powerplant is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case, with no modifications noted in the listing.
When that powertrain swap was taking place years ago, this 1972 Ford Bronco was also completely disassembled and repainted in a shade of metallic blue with black and red accents, then fitted with fender flares, Toms Offroad doors, aftermarket steel bumpers, LED headlights, and 17-inch Mickey Thompson wheels wrapped with 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires. A lifted four-link suspension with coilovers and Wilwood disc brakes reside underneath, too.
The interior of this 1972 Ford Bronco has been modernized as well with aftermarket front bucket seats, a custom center console, push-button start, air conditioning, a touchscreen stereo with Bluetooth and a backup camera, USB charging ports, an aftermarket steering wheel, and Dakota Digital instrumentation. Overall, it’s an interesting machine, and one that’s quite a bit different than the typical celebrity-owned, high-dollar Bronco restomods we routinely go up for sale these days.
