Ex-Bondurant Racing School 1993 Ford Taurus SHO Up For Auction

Bob Bondurant – a legendary figure who has been inducted into no less than ten different motorsports halls of fame – sadly passed away back in November 2021 at the age of 88. The late racer, who also had strong ties to Ford, is well-known for creating the highly successful Bondurant Racing School in 1968, which has taught driving skills to a half-million students over the years and remains in operation today. Now, a little slice of that school’s history – this 1993 Ford Taurus SHO – is up for auction.

This 1993 Ford Taurus SHO was previously used as an instructor car at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona, in fact, after which it was purchased by the current owner in 2021, who exported it car to Ontario, Canada. Now, it’s looking for a new home via Bring a Trailer, albeit with the same yellow paint adorned with Bondurant School and sponsor graphics, along with some expected scrapes and damage from its days on the track.

As one might imagine, this Ford Taurus SHO features a handful of modifications that made it suitable for track use, including a power steering cooler, front caster/camber plates, front disc brakes from a Mustang Cobra, a roll cage, safety harnesses, window nets, and a fire suppression system. Otherwise, it’s a pretty standard Taurus SHO of this era with Opal Gray leather seats, while power comes from the Yamaha-sourced DOHC 3.2L V6, which was factory-rated to produce 220 horsepower. It sends that power to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a former Bondurant School of High Performance Driving car surface for auction, either. Just last September, a very cool 2000 Ford Crown Victoria “Cobra Vic” also went up for grabs, which was one of just 18 built in total.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

So annoying when you take the time to write about an interesting vehicle going to auction and don’t include a link to the auction. In addition, other links in the article do not go to the referenced pages.

I was relieved to see it actually was a five speed.
