Ford Among Top Brands With Cars Expected To Last 250K Miles

For years now, the prices of new vehicles has risen by a dramatic amount, leaving many opting to keep their rides longer than ever. As new vehicle pricing continues to remain relatively stable even as inventory grows and incentives make a comeback, this figures to be the case for the foreseeable future, too. Thus, it’s nice to know that among all automotive brands, Ford is one of a few that has models that are expected to be the most likely to make it to the 250,000 miles mark.

This news comes to us from iSeeCars and its annual Longest-Lasting Cars study. There, Ford was one of seven automotive brands that exhibited a better than average chance of hitting 250,000 miles – in Ford’s case, 9.5 percent, which is 1.1 times more than the overall average of 8.6 percent. That was good enough to rank Ford seventh on this list, behind Toyota (17 percent), Honda (13.6 percent), Ram (11.5 percent), GMC (11.4 percent), Chevrolet (10.4 percent), and Lexus (9.5 percent).

To come up with these results, iSeeCars.com analyzed data for over 402 million cars. The average odometer reading for each vehicle was calculated at each yearly age, and a proprietary model based on these average mileages was developed to estimate the probability that each vehicle would survive to various mileage thresholds. In that regard, both the Ford F-150 and Ford Expedition also made the cut individually as vehicles that are more likely than most to make it to the 250k-mile threshold, too.

“Modern vehicles are getting more durable, with 30 models offering between a 12 and 36 percent chance of reaching a quarter million miles,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “Many consumers still consider a car’s usable lifespan to end at 100,000 miles. But our latest longest-lasting study confirms that even 200,000 miles isn’t the end of the line for many cars. The top nine cars on this year’s list have a better than 20 percent chance of hitting 250,000 miles.”

Thanks beach bum. Study or not, my current Taurus has in excess of 250k and shows no signs of quitting. I sold my last one, still running and driving, with 300k+.

My ’74 made it to 300,000 miles before engine work. Lots of hard use. Even the Philco-Ford 8-track continued to work.
