The turbocharged 1.0L I-3 EcoBoost engine used in a number of Ford EcoSport and Ford Focus models in recent history has been the subject of lawsuits, an NHTSA investigation, and a recall over the past few months, all due to engine failures caused by a loss of oil pressure. FoMoCo ultimately discovered that the problem stems from a faulty engine oil pump drive belt tensioner arm that may fracture and separate from the tensioner backing plate, while the oil pump drive belt material may also degrade and lose teeth. Now, the automaker has authorized replacements for impacted models equipped with the Ford EcoBoost 1.0L engine.
According to WVLT News, at least one total Ford EcoBoost 1.0L engine replacement was authorized by the automaker for a customer whose EcoSport was affected by this particular issue, and The Blue Oval has also updated its website to include engine replacement as an alternative to waiting for new parts to arrive. “If the engine in your vehicle fails due to a damaged oil pump belt and/or oil pump belt tensioner, Ford has authorized your dealer to replace the engine assembly as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor),” the automaker stated.
This should come as welcome news to those who own an EcoSport of Focus model that contains these faulty parts, as those components aren’t expected to begin arriving until next year – potentially leaving some without a method of transportation. Ford initially issued a recall for this problem back in January, and the very next month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) closed its investigation into the matter as a result of that action.
Regardless, a class action lawsuit was later filed by a group of impacted owners, and even after Ford asked the court to dismiss it, that case will proceed after a judge was unconvinced by the automaker’s argument that the 13 plaintiffs involved in the case had not taken their vehicles in to have recall-related repairs performed.

How does Jimmy Boy even have a job?
Pathetic
I already paid out of pocket to have the engine replaced, how do I go about getting reimbursed by Ford?
I dodged a bullet by not buying a 3-pot Ford, instead going to Mazda. Let me know when the “Quality Is Job 1” corporate culture kicks in.
how do I file complaint in court..I’m already filed 2 with lemon in n.y.this car has been a nightmare..my last correspondence with Ford via registered mail for recouping my rental was denied because I didn’t rent a Ford after changing policy without notifying customer..what a mistake..u can’t talk to anyone except remote peope..I will be filing in n.y.euther give me my money back or else..4 batteries installed. 2 by dealer and 2 by myself..I have to press the gas saver button in order to drive.otherwise car shut off and won’t start.please call me 917 939 3694

We have 5 customers waiting at our dealership for parts to come off of back order for this recall. We are number 4056 in line for one of the parts. If you have already gotten your engine replaced before this, contact the Ford customer service line. They do have a way to reimburse you.
my Ford fiesta from Ford has broken engine Ford want 6000 to replace engine no way not paying finance wet belt broke after 1 year of buying now I have no car and can’t go work gutted
We have the same issue with our 2016 ford focus 1.0L ecoboost, contacted all relevant people and no one is willing to sort this out, contacted Ford direct which they have refused to carry out any works due to missing a service from pre inspection at 5 miles to 11,000 15months later which when stated we did not have this car at this period they just said contact motor ombudsman who have not commented on this absolutely ridiculous
Good dau. Does the failure of the 1.0 Ecoboost engines also applicable to South Africa? I had to replace the oil filter. Wetbelt. turbo etc two months ago. I have a 2017 Ford Focus. 113 000 km on the clock work was done at Ford but Ford did not mention any of these law suits or investigations to me. Paid R60 000 to have car fixed.
I have an Eco sport 1l engine 2015 plate 67000 on clock had to replace engine last year due to cambelt failure in 2023 , not only having to fork out nearly 4k to have engine replaced , i now have engine management light on , this is not the first time since having engine replaced ??!!!!
Ford have alot to a swer for regarding these cars !!!
Putting a rubber band in hot oil is a disaster waiting to happen. The boffins in the drawing office should have known that.
If you want to go faster buy a car with a bigger engine… Don’t screw the nuts out of a 1 litre engine.. 1.3 litre cortina engine used to last reps 30k miles.. So they gave them a 2litre.problem solved.
I have paid a huge amount for my Ford focus 2017 engine replacement how can I get my re imbursement please 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 just this July I have finished borrowing all over for the car that was service by the dealer I need justice.
I have a ford fiesta 1L ecoboost 2017 model which has been at ford for a very lengthy period. They cannot get it to run properly after buying a secondhand engine when they said my engine was trashed, the belt shredded and stopped supplying oil to the head after 95 000 kilometers. Now I am stuck with a car at the agents with no solution being a pensioner and no money coming in to go further.
I have had my fiesta at two ford agencies now and still don’t have my car back running yet. Ford just don’t want to assist clients or expect them to be wealthy and have endless amounts to blow. The first ford agency even blocked my car from there agency once they did all the services and a repair that I paid for that lasted not even two weeks.
I have a Ford focus 69000 miles on clock and apparently head gasket gone, I have tried a few garages and nobody willing to repair it, one quote was £4000 the car is not even worth that, I bought the Ford as I assumed parts and repairs would be cheap, I am now going to have to scrap the car and pay the finance I still owe on it, I will never purchase a Ford car again
I am very worried that my Ford at 40k miles will start getting these issues!
I have a Ford ecosport 1lt a/t Titanium 2018 that has only done 45993km (South Africa). I work from home with milage remaining low. My engine light came on and I took the vehicle into ford. They advised that one if the cylinders have lost pressure and noted that I need to replace my engine (gave me a quote for R130000.00). Ford SA is investigating but placing the blame on bad fuel, issue is I use the same fuel stations as everyone else in the area and am unaware of any other motorists having the same issue? My question: Is it really the fuel or attributed to the ongoing engine failures with the Ford ecosport?
Ford Ranger has the same issue wetbelt failure what you doing about that, all the people who bought the vehicle in good faith to then go down with this issue?
