Following an agreement with Tesla, Ford EV owners now have access to that automaker’s rather large Supercharger network, which they can utilize via a special adapter. This piece enables Ford EVs – which are equipped with Combined Charging Standard (CCS) ports – to charge via Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), expanding the sheer number of available chargers by a large margin. However, there’s just one problem – many Ford EV owners have been facing delays in terms of taking delivery of those adapters.
Orders for this NACS adapter opened up in late February, and owners of Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E models are eligible to get one for free. However, as Ford Authority reported in April, The Blue Oval began emailing customers to inform them that their adapter had been delayed due to supply chain issues. That problem continued into June, at which point the automaker issued a statement noting that it was still shipping NACS adapters to Ford EV owners, and just last month, the automaker extended the deadline for owners to secure their free adapter to August 31st, 2024, after which it will be sold for a retail price of $230.
Unfortunately for those still waiting for this Ford EV adapter, the automaker is now sending out emails informing them that it has been delayed yet again, according to InsideEVs. On the flip side, it doesn’t seem as if Ford EV owners are the only ones facing delays in terms of receiving their adapter. In fact, others – including those that own EVs from Rivian and General Motors – are also reportedly having problems getting one, too.
“Due to ongoing supply constraints, there is a further delay of your complimentary Fast Charging Adapter. We know this is frustrating. Thank you for your continued patience,” Ford’s email reads. “To expedite your adapter delivery, we are rapidly working with our supply base to increase high-quality production. We are confident we will have a solution in the coming weeks. As adapter supply increases, our goal is to work as fast as possible to get your adapter to you. We will continue to update you on the estimated timing of your adapter. In the meantime, make sure you’re ready to Plug & Charge with Tesla Superchargers by setting your vehicle’s automatic software updates to ‘On.'”
We’ll have more on Ford’s NACS adapter soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for 24/7 Ford news coverage.

Ford thinking thinking of the right way to get these adaptors out to their EV consumers. They should have gotten a stock pile of them first before sending them out. Over promise and under deliver!
Having people sign up for one, then having an estimated timeline of delivery before you have any is a terrible idea. I’ve heard of one Ford EV owner getting one so far. Everyone else is getting frustrated, as Ford keeps pushing the dates back with no end in sight. So some have just purchased other adaptors from Amazon to use. They aren’t holding their breate for Ford anymore.
Ford sucks when it comes to communication and delivery. It took me over a year to get my Mach-E after I ordered it in 2021. Then they cancelled the parking assist, but deducted the cost. They then deducted the foot triggered trunk and never told me. I scheduled a service visit, wasting my time, only to find out that there was a service bulletin informing the dealerships – but not the customers. I’m still waiting for BlueCruise 1.3 and my adapter.
I’ve got software issues where my software doesn’t line up with the manual, so I can’t adjust my speed limit autoset for my adaptive cruise, but other than that, the car has been flawless. I love my car but am growing to hate Ford.
I have stopped having any expectations on promises by Ford. My Mach-e came with a button for self-parking and park assist however it never worked. Ford told me they will eventually get it to work again but never did. Similarly I placed the order for the Tesla adapter back in March 2024 and now Ford is saying that it won’t be available till January of 2025. I never received any email for any of their previous changes to delivery dates or any apology for delay. My first and last Ford for sure. I have seen better after sales services from cars costing 3 times less. Pathetic and shameful to say the least.
