To date, pretty much everyone has compared the Ford F-150 Lightning to the Tesla Cybertruck, for obvious reasons – these two models are direct competitors in the all-electric pickup space, both budding for the sales crown in that young but growing segment. However, most reviews focus on things like performance, range, comfort, and the like – not durability, which is also an important factor for truck owners, specifically. Recently, notorious YouTuber Cody Detwiler of the Whistlin’ Diesel channel decided to do precisely that, albeit with some rather destructive results.
Detwiler has amassed millions of subscribers for one particular reason – he does some pretty crazy things with vehicles, oftentimes completely destroying them mercilessly. For this durability test, he compares the Tesla Cybertruck with a gas-powered Ford F-150, driving each over logs, concrete pipes, strapping C4 to the sides of both, and using each to free the other in various instances. For the most part, both trucks hold up fairly well to this extreme abuse, though there are a couple of eyebrow-raising moments.
One such moment involves the watching a portion of the Cybertruck’s gigacasting quite literally get ripped off after it comes crashing down on the concrete piping and subsequently frees the Ford F-150 when it gets stuck on the same exact obstacle, which is pretty alarming – not to mention the various quality issues the team discovers, such as select pieces being held in place with velcro. The Cybertruck’s stainless steel body does at least hold up better than the F-150’s aluminum door when Detwiler straps explosives to both, anyway.
Regardless, the Ford F-150 winds up winning this wild, over-the-top durability test, which goes far beyond what pretty much every owner of both vehicles would ever subject their pickups to. Regardless, in some other, real-world testing, the Ford F-150 Lightning has beaten the Cybertruck in different ways – such as off-roading. Meanwhile, Ford owns its own Cybertruck that it’s been using for benchmarking purposes, most recently, against a rather mysterious F-150 Lightning prototype.

Ford still makes the best trucks in the world!
The F150 failed the very first test – rolling off the tow truck.
Because of both extreme’s; I cannot honestly contribute what i know, have experianced during my 33 year’s of on & off-road use, myself! I put consumers reports to shame!
Lol
The F150 failed immediately. It technically should have been disqualified immediately but they fixed it and continued the comparison.
Also in the jump test it jumped 1/3rd the distance of the Cybertruck, the f150 would’ve probably split in half at that kind of jump
