Though it was discontinued a few months ago, the Ford Fiesta remains incredibly popular in certain parts of the world, where it was sold in large quantities for a long time. That includes the UK, where used vehicle shoppers have gravitated toward the Ford Fiesta for years now, with that particular model routinely landing on the list of the most popular used vehicles on the market. This was also true in Q2 of 2024 as well, it seems.
In fact, according to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Fiesta was the top-selling used vehicle in the UK in the second quarter of the year, as shoppers purchased 77,236 of that particular model. This gave the Fiesta a healthy lead over the second-place Vauxhall Corsa at 63,714 sales, too. Overall, the used vehicle market in the UK enjoyed a 7.2 percent sales increase in Q2 as well – its sixth consecutive quarter of growth – with buyers scooping up 1,963,395 models in total.
“It’s encouraging to see the used car market continue its recovery, with choice and affordability rejuvenated by the new car sector’s sustained run of growth,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “The increased supply of electric vehicles to second and third owners is helping more motorists make the switch – underlining the importance of energizing the new EV market to support a fair transition for all. Maintaining momentum requires reliable, affordable and green EV charging up and down the country and incentives to get all of Britain on board the net zero transition.”
As for the Ford Fiesta, it has long topped the used vehicle sales charts in the UK, having closed out the entirety of 2022 and 2023 as the best-selling such model in that part of the world. Having now ranked as the top-selling used vehicle in the UK in both Q1 and Q2 of 2024, the Fiesta is well on its way to making that three consecutive first place finishes, too.
