The Ford Maverick launched to much fanfare back in the 2022 model year, but interestingly, the fuel-efficient, affordable, compact pickup also quickly became a favorite among hot rodders. In fact, we’ve seen quite a few modified Mavericks out there at the drag strip and autocross events, which is precisely why Ford created the performance-focused Lobo as part of the model’s first refresh. However, one of the biggest drivers of this Ford Maverick movement is now the center of a big controversy, it seems.
That entity is a company called Fast Mavericks, which was founded by Maverick owner Ivan Gonzalez after he modified his own pickup – among others – and became quite famous among the tight-knit community dedicated to that particular model. Gonzalez soon began selling parts to other customers and seemingly had a flourishing business doing so, but according to The Drive, he’s now found himself embroiled in a bit of a scandal as a result.
Thus far, around 20 Ford Maverick owners report that they’ve ordered things from Fast Mavericks over the past year-plus, only to either not receive their entire order, or no parts at all. Gonzalez has reportedly been accepting these orders and payments, only to proceed to provide customers with excuses – or, in some cases, he’s reportedly failed to communicate whatsoever. Gonzalez resounded to this story by admitting that he’s working to relocate his business from California to the Carolinas, and is also waiting on suppliers to finish making parts so he can ship them.
“I’ve been in contact with customers and orders started shipping today,” Gonzalez said. “I’m not trying to screw anyone. It’s no excuse but things grew faster than one person could keep up. I can and will right the ship. I’ll get everyone their parts or refunds.” At the same time, this is just the second such scandal we’ve come across regarding Blue Oval parts makers as of late – in another unrelated situation, some Ford Bronco owners are now facing a potential legal battle regarding aftermarket hardtops that never came to fruition, too.
