Ford Maverick Sketches Inspired Tucci Hot Rods Pickup

Prior to the 2021 SEMA Show, The Blue Oval and its handful of partners had already prepared a number of notable custom builds to show off at that mega-event. At the time, FoMoCo had a bevy of new products to show off, including the Ford Maverick, which was just added to its lineup for the very first time – at least, in pickup form. As it turns out, one particular custom Ford Maverick that appeared at the 2021 SEMA Show was inspired by some early sketches of that new model, too.

Back in 2019, Ford Maverick designer Josh Blundo joined The Blue Oval and came across a clay model of the in-development compact pickup. He was immediately inspired by that model and some early design sketches of the pickup, and proceeded to modify it to his own liking – adding a widebody, a front splitter, wings, and large, unique wheels. What’s particular interesting about this project is that Blundo’s custom Maverick idea wound up inspiring Tucci Hot Rods to create their own unique one-off variant, too.

That special Ford Maverick came to life just in time for the 2021 SEMA Show, debuting with wider fenders, a front spoiler, turbofan wheels, a rear cab spoiler, a Borla exhaust, and a lowered suspension. That one-off creation wound up debuting to quite a bit of fanfare, and as such, it also earned Blundo the greenlight to develop the all-new 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo.

The Maverick Lobo features some unique exterior updates of its own, along with the Edge ST’s seven-speed transmission, a lowered suspension, a track-only “Lobo” drive mode, torque vectoring, a twin-clutch rear drive unit, specially-tuned steering, and dual-piston front brake calipers borrowed from the Focus ST. Additionally, the Lobo is equipped with the same upgraded cooling system present in the optional 4K Tow Package, with its larger radiator and fan, plus a transmission oil cooler.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
