For years now, automotive theft has been on the rise not only in the U.S., but other parts of the world as well. There are many ways one can prevent themselves from becoming a victim of auto theft, such as parking in a garage or a well-lit area at night, locking the doors, taking one’s keys with them, or utilizing immobilization or anti-theft devices. However, the type of vehicle people drive can also make them more susceptible to theft as well – or less so, in the case of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
According to new data from Consumer Reports and the Highway Loss Data Institute, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is among the least stolen vehicles on the market right now, based on its whole-vehicle theft rate for the 2021-2023 model years. In that regard, the Mach-E has a relative theft claim frequency of six, which means that its theft rate is a mere six percent of the overall average. By comparison, the vehicle that came in as the most stolen was the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, which had a theft rate of 5,282 – 53 times higher than the national average.
This report isn’t all rosy for Blue Oval owners, however, as the Ford F-150 ranks among the most stolen vehicles in the U.S. after the National Insurance Crime Bureau notes that thieves made off with 15,852 of those pickups in 2023 alone. As Ford Authority previously reported, the F-150 ranked as the ninth most stolen vehicle in 2023, behind only the Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Chevy Silverado 1500, Kia Soul, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, and Kia Forte.
As a whole, automotive thefts in the U.S. rose from 1,008,756 vehicles in 2022 to 1,020,729 in 2023 – with 208,668 of those crimes occurring solely in the state of California. The NICB blames this sharp rise on factors such as economic stress, social media posts (in the case of Hyundai/Kia, at least), and strained public resources.
We’ll have more on the Mach-E soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Mustang Mach-E news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

“behind only the Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Chevy Silverado 1500, Kia Soul, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, and Kia Forte.” So, why do thieves love sedans so much?
Because only drag racers want 2 door cars maybe?

The report say the F150 is one of the most stolen vehicles you want to bet that’s the ICE F150 and not the Lighting. And the Mach E isn’t stolen much because you can pick up a brick about anywhere without stealing it.
