Following the debut of the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the 2021 model year, a handful of parties set out to see just how far they could travel in the new EV crossover before it ran out of charge. In July 2021, BBC South transport correspondent Paul Clifton and two others crossed Britain and covered 840 miles, using just 6.5 miles per kilowatt-hour and setting a new record in the process. Just a few months later, two more world records were broken – for the shortest charging time, and the fewest charging stops along the UK’s longest road trip. Now, another Ford Mustang Mach-E has once again reset the record books.
This record was broken by a company called Webfleet, which just claimed the Guinness Book of World Records title for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge – 569.64 miles, or 916.74 kilometers, all behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang Mach-E Extended Range rear-wheel drive model with the 91 kWh battery pack. The trip lasted more than 24 hours, during which the EV averaged an impressive consumption of 6.25 miles per kilowatt hour (kWh) on public roads throughout the UK.
Notably, the journey covered both urban and rural roads in an effort to simulate a real-world driving experience, though the Mach-E was equipped with low rolling resistance tires from Bridgestone, which owns Webfleet. Regardless, it’s an impressive result, and good enough to beat the previous record of 563.97 miles, which was set in Hangzhou, China.
“This record is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this endeavor,” said Beverley Wise, Webfleet UKI Regional Director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions. “It represents a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport and demonstrates the potential of electric vehicles when supported by innovative Bridgestone tire design and advanced fleet management technology. Breaking this record has been an exhilarating journey and a powerful demonstration of what electric vehicles can achieve. It is incredible to see how far we have come with EV technology and efficiency. We hope this inspires more people to consider electric vehicles for their everyday travel.”
