The Ford Puma has been a popular choice among new vehicle shoppers in Europe since its launch a few years ago, and that has continued through the model’s recent refresh as well. In fact, the Ford Puma ranked as the 11th best-selling new vehicle in Europe last year, and followed that up by topping the overall sales charts in the UK through the first half of 2024. Thus, it should come as no surprise to learn that the Ford Puma also enjoyed a strong month of sales across Europe in July, too.
According to new data from JATO Dynamics, the Ford Puma ranked as the 20th best-selling car in Europe last month after recording 10,342 sales, though that was also a year-over-year decrease of 25 percent for the crossover. Regardless, it wasn’t alone in that regard, as many vehicles in the top 25 also suffered some sort of sales decline last month – including the Tesla Model Y, Fiat Panda, Audi A3, Fiat/Abarth 500, Mini Hatch, Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Kia Picanto, Volkswagen ID.4, Mercedes C-Class, and Skoda Enyaq.
As for the overall European new vehicle market, sales increased by 1.5 percent to 1.03 million units, though PHEV sales dropped by 10 percent year-over-year, and all-electric vehicles only faired slightly better with a six percent drop, while SUVs set a new record by accounting for 54 percent of overall sales. As for why electrified vehicles are seeing declines all of a sudden, JATO Dynamics notes that there is a lot of uncertainty regarding future legislation aimed at those vehicles at the moment, among other factors.
“The lack of clarity around the incentives for – and future of – EVs continues to present a barrier to consumers considering an EV. These factors, alongside the low residual value of EVs contributed to the decline seen in July,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics.
