Ford Ranger Gets Walkinshaw Off-Road Model For Australia

The Ford Ranger is a true global success story, a pickup that’s built and sold in multiple markets around the world to this day. The latest version of the Ranger has also been a huge hit in places like Australia, where it overtook the Toyota Hilux in terms of sales recently, which was a monumental achievement on its own accord. Now, customers in Australia have a new, bespoke version of the Ford Ranger available to purchase.

Walkinshaw Performance WAU Ford Ranger - Exterior 003 - Wheels and Tires

That new offering is called the WAU Ford Ranger, and it’s built by the folks at Walkinshaw Performance. The WAU Ranger is enhanced in a variety of ways over the stock model, much of which center around not only visuals, but also, making it a more competent off-roader in the vein of the just-revealed Ford Ranger Tremor for that same market – though the WAU Ranger does take things a bit further than that model.

Walkinshaw Performance WAU Ford Ranger - Exterior 004 - Roof Lighting

On the outside, the WAU Ford Ranger features its own unique graphics, coupled with fender flares that bear integrated parking sensors, Baja Design roof lights, and a set of 17×8.5-inch machined-face wheels with Walkinshaw center caps, which are wrapped with 285/70R17 tires. The WAU Ranger sits a bit higher than stock as well, thanks to a two-inch lift, which is complemented by various suspension upgrades including uniquely-tuned Bilstein dampers, revised front coil and spring rates, new upper control arms (which help correct suspension geometry), and front drop links.

Walkinshaw Performance WAU Ford Ranger - Exterior 002 - Tailgate Badge

In the rear, the WAU Ford Ranger features a beefier rear leaf spring, a tail shaft realignment, and a rear leaf bush and shackle kit. There are also Walkinshaw Performance badges throughout, coupled with a special build plate. Buyers even get some special perks, such as a gift pack, two tickets to a local Supercars race with a garage tour and signed hats, and an elongated warranty, to boot. However, just 25 WAU Ford Ranger pickups will be built in total, and the company hasn’t revealed pricing, either, so it’s unclear what sort of premium one will have to pay for this unique offering.
