The newest generation Ford Ranger launched to tremendous demand in Australia back in 2022, with the first batch of pickups selling out quickly, before deliveries began. Not much has changed since then, as the Ford Ranger remains a coveted entity in Australia, to the point where the mid-size pickup actually took down its arch rival on the sales charts recently – the Toyota Hilux. The same is also true of the high-performance Ford Ranger Raptor, which is enjoying its fair share of success Down Under, too.
Ford Ranger Raptor sales typically aren’t separated out from overall Ranger sales, but according to Drive, that particular model accounted for around 10,000 units or over 15 percent of total Ranger sales in 2023. To put that number in perspective, it means that the Ford Ranger Raptor outsold the entire Australian Chevrolet, Jeep, Land Rover, and Genesis brands last year – among others – and if it was its own brand, the Raptor Raptor would have come close to toppling the combined sales of Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Polestar, and Porsche in that country.
This doesn’t come as a huge surprise given the fact that – as Ford Authority previously reported – Ford Ranger Raptor customers in Australia were facing wait times of up to a year after that model first launched there. Not much has changed since then, though supply has seemingly ramped up quite a bit, contributing to this sales success.
Meanwhile, Ford is obviously keen to capitalize on that success, especially given the fact that its specialty models like the Raptor lineup are huge profit generators, as Jim Baumbick, Ford Vice President, Product Development Operations and Quality, revealed last year.
