As was the case with the prior generation, the current Ford Ranger has proven to be a smash hit in Australia, even surpassing the Toyota Hilux in terms of sales recently. However, the Ford Ranger has also experienced its fair share of ups and downs in the market as well, after being treated to multiple price increases, while supply has yet to catch up with demand. Now, a handful of Ford Ranger pickups are being recalled in Australia, too.
According to CarExpert, Ford is recalling 13 diesel-powered Ranger pickups over a software issue, which makes those models non-complaint with Australian regulations. All affected vehicles were built in either the 2021 or 2022 model years, with a full list of VINs available here.
“Due to a software issue, the engine may generate more soot than intended which could cause the vehicle to trigger more frequent regenerations of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF),” Ford said in its recall notice. “This could result in the vehicle producing emissions outside the requirements of Emissions Standards Regulations. This may also lead to potential failure of the DPF. There is no safety hazard associated with this recall and the defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles that experience this issue may not comply with Australian Design Rule 79/04 – Emissions Control for Light Vehicles.”
Meanwhile, the all-new Ford Ranger Tremor just debuted in Australia, which is already on sale in New Zealand and South Africa, but not the U.S., at least not yet. In Australia, the Ranger, in general, has faced tremendous demand since its launch, though it has also lost some features and gotten more expensive as of late, the latest of several rounds of price increases since it arrived in that part of the world.
