Ford Transit Production Decreased In July 2024

Production of most Ford and Lincoln models faced some sort of decrease in July compared to June, which is not terribly uncommon. This is due to the fact that The Blue Oval tends to implement summer shutdowns at some of its plants in July, while the Independence Day holiday also slows things down a bit. It’s unclear if that was the case with Ford Transit production last month, but it also declined compared to June, too.

According to FoMoCo’s July sales report, Ford Transit production at the Kansas City Assembly plant declined from 15,816 units in June to 7,051 last month, which is a rather significant drop of 8,765 units, or around 55 percent. June also represented a month-over-month decline of 1,218 units or around seven percent compared to than May’s output of 17,034 units. Prior to that, Ford Transit production had only declined only once, month-over-month in the 2024 calendar year, in March, when it fell from February’s output of 17,417 units to 14,018.

The Ford Transit certainly wasn’t alone in facing a production decrease in July, and in fact, the Ford F-150 also saw its output at the Kansas City plant drop rather significantly as well – down to 13,119 units in July, which was 13,290 units or around 50 percent fewer than June’s tally of 26,409 pickups. Regardless, the decrease also comes shortly after FoMoCo announced that it was focused on increasing Transit production capacity as it continues to face heavy demand just this past May.

This demand clearly shows up in terms of Ford Transit sales, with the ever-popular model continuing to dominate the full-size van segment thus far this year in spite of these production issues. As Ford Authority previously reported, the Transit enjoyed a roughly 20 percent year-over-year sales increase in Q1, achieving a significant 60 percent market share in the process. In June, the Ford Transit also saw its sales grow by 19.13 percent to 13,077 units, even as overall Blue Oval sales decreased by nearly six percent.
