Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an advanced holographic system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 23rd, 2023, published on August 29th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0288823.
The Ford Authority Take
Over the past couple of years, Ford has filed a pair of patents that revolve around the concept of using holograms for various purposes. That includes one patent for a holographic projection system that’s intended to help locate a vehicle in a parking lot – particularly in the dark or other low-light conditions such as when fog is present – as well as another outlining an idea for a vehicle window projection system that aims to help deter potential attackers, thieves, or carjackers by using a projector to make it look like there’s a second passenger in a vehicle, even when there’s not.
Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going by introducing something new – an idea for an advanced holographic system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too. In this case, the system would be capable of recording and projecting two-dimensional holograms outside of a vehicle. Those holograms could be anything from other vehicles to people to animals or even cartoon characters.
As for what sort of specific purpose such a system would serve, well, that isn’t entirely clear, as Ford doesn’t really divulge that information in the patent filing. However, it does show off holograms of dogs and even police officers, as well as projections of menus at restaurants, which could prove useful in some instances – such as a potential security method or convenience feature. Regardless, it’s an interesting concept that may wind up coming to fruition one day.
