Future Ford Vehicles Could Prep Occupants For Acceleration

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a system that would prepare a vehicle’s occupants for acceleration that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on April 14th, 2022, published on August 20th, 2024, and assigned serial number 12065145.

Ford Patent System For Preparing Vehicle's Occupantts For Acceleration

The Ford Authority Take

In recent months, Ford has filed a number of patents revolving around the concept of making its future models a bit smarter in a number of ways. Those filings include ideas for an advanced occupant detection system, an occupant health protection system, and a system capable of detecting drunk drivers, many of which revolve around improving safety. This newly published patent is more focused on something fun, however, as it outlines an idea for for a system that would prepare a vehicle’s occupants for acceleration that may be used in future Ford vehicles.

This system would first be able to detect the presence of an occupant in the passenger seat or back seat, as well as the position of their head or the direction they’re looking. If the system determines that the occupant’s head isn’t within a certain parameter, it would ask them to move it to prepare for hard acceleration. Once the occupant’s head is in a position where they won’t experience whiplash or some other discomfort, the acceleration mode would be enabled and ready to go.

This is certainly an interesting idea, given the fact that many of us have surprised passengers with hard acceleration in the past. It seems as if Ford is looking to mitigate any potential injuries that may occur as a result of those practices, however, even if it somewhat takes the fun out of it.

When will this ridiculous technology procession of geek-driven sensors & intrusion complexities end? When will the public realize that these “features” are causing vehicle ‘write-off’ to occur, not because of structural repair costs, but because of sensor replacement & proper realignment impossibility!! In the end, everyone pays for this “protect-you-from-yourself” march to ‘where? & what?’.
