Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a remote maneuvering system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 16th, 2023, published on August 22nd, 2024, and assigned serial number 0280984.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a handful of patents in the past outlining ways that we may one day be able to remotely control its vehicles, including ideas for an automated following mode, key fobs with remote park-assist functionality, and a vehicular remote control system, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent keeps that theme going with another similar sort of idea – this time, for a remote maneuvering system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in this filing, there are already a select number of vehicles on the market that have remote maneuvering capability, which allows users to move or park those vehicles using the key fob or their mobile phone while standing outside of the vehicle. In this case, those types of systems would be able to use sensors, cameras, and the GPS system to provide feedback to the user during this process, however.
This could include haptic feedback such as a vibration, or audio, designed to warn a user when the vehicle is getting close to an object. For example, the intensity of those alerts could grow as the vehicle gets closer to another vehicle or an object that it may be in danger of running in to. Ford also notes that such a system may prove useful in trucks that have extendable beds, too. Overall, it’s an interesting concept, and one that may prove useful if remote maneuvering one day becomes a common and popular option in vehicles.

Ford is really losing touch. First they surrender in the EV race. Now they are pushing gizmos no one in their audience cares about. You buyers want the lower cost Maverick back not the Maverick that costs almost as much as a Ranger.
Yep, can’t put a push button start on the new Ranger XLT but they are concerned about this stupid stuff. Ridiculous!!!!! Get a clue of what people want.
Ford has the first park assist system, but it needs driver inputs (I tried in in a 2013 Fusion Hybrid). Ford had a prototype Focus running with an automatic parking system that can parallel park with no driver inputs. Older and partially impared drivers need any help that these systems can provide. The naysayers here are just envious of this.
Resume your ev focus…. It will pay off in the long run.🤫
We need more useless, expensive patents !
Come back with the Thunderbird & make it with something we haven’t seen before
