Jim Farley Taking Ford E-Transit Custom Across Germany

The all-new, all-electric Ford E-Transit Custom just launched in Europe back in May, and it’s a critical addition to the automaker’s van lineup in that country. After all, with the EU looking to transition to zero-emissions in the coming years – coupled with the fact that the Ford Transit Custom is what CEO Jim Farley calls the company’s “Super Duty of Europe” – there’s obviously a lot at stake here. Thus, Farley himself is setting out on a trip across Germany behind the wheel of a Ford E-Transit Custom to garner some feedback.

In this clip, Farley discusses why he likes embarking on road trips in some of the company’s vehicles, which he previously did behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 Lightning roughly one year ago. On that trip, Farley learned a lot about what it’s like to drive an EV on a road trip and the challenges of existing charging infrastructure, but now, he’s also discussing the things that he learns from customers regarding quality as well, which is key given how customers in Europe use their vans.

Farley previously expressed disappointment in himself for not tackling Ford’s quality woes sooner, but has since implemented a number of procedures and practices designed to right the proverbial ship – aside from driving those vehicles himself on road trips. Thus far, those efforts appear to be paying off, as Farley noted earlier this year that the company’s 2024 model year lineup is already showing improvements in initial quality, a notion that was backed up by the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study, in which Ford ranked above the industry average this time around.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

Haha, yeah,,, all these guys with several titles – and getting paid for all of them individually obviously show there is not that much work to do…

Of course, if they’d address existing and pending issues, it wouldn’t be such a bad job anyway.

What is frustrating to the vehicle buying public is that most of the time, the people at the top seem like vacant Suits or Pant Suits. Both FORD and GM have pretty nagging issues that never seem to be really addressed, like ford’s crappy 3 cylinder engines that require a $3,000 timing belt change at 45,000 miles, or ECOBOOST troubles, etc.

Then there is GM’s CUE trouble, poorly designed radios that cannot ride through their OTHER problem, normally weak or dead 12 volt batteries. Lifter problems in all their Gasoline V-8’s, discontinued vehicles when they just start getting popular, like the Volt which they are now supposedly bringing back after spending plenty to get rid of it in the first place, and on and on and on.

Put a rear twin spoiler on this and call it a Mustang Mach V (as in Van). While we are at it, why not a Mustang Town Car? Let’s starve Lincoln of any exciting product and just warm-over existing “Left-Overs”.
