Long Running Ford F-150 Rival Ram 1500 Classic Cancelled

Even though the Ram 1500 was treated to a redesign back in 2019, Stellantis made a bit of an interesting decision at that time to continue selling the old model right alongside it – a vehicle that it renamed the “Ram 1500 Classic.” This move actually proved to be a great thing for price conscious shoppers, as the Ram 1500 Classic was sold with a lower price tag compared to the newer model, which actually helped it eat into Ford F-Series sales for some time. Now, however, it seems as if that run is coming to an end.

Stellantis has confirmed that Ram 1500 Classic production will end at its Warren Truck Assembly plant later this year, marking the end of a somewhat short era. The plant will also move from a two-shift to a one-shift operating pattern in general assembly, though two shifts will continue to build the Jeep Wagoneer at the same facility. As for why it’s discontinuing the Ram 1500 Classic, Stellantis notes that the 2025 Ram 1500 Tradesman offers the same type of “incredible value and content,” citing a need to move to comply with future emissions regulations as well.

Regardless, shoppers will still be paying more for a new Ram as a result, as the Classic currently starts out at $40,700 with destination charges, while the Tradesman has an MSRP of $42,270. Both trucks are equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 as standard, but the Classic can also be had with the 5.7L Hemi V8 – something that’s otherwise disappearing from the 2025 Ram lineup in favor of the twin-turbocharged 3.0L I-6 Hurricane powerplant.

Customers can choose from two versions of that newer engine – the base I-6 generates 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque, while the high-output variant produces 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplants are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with max towing capacity coming in at 11,580 pounds and max payload reaching 2,300 pounds.
