The Cup Series added a race in Mexico City to its 2025 schedule, meaning the NASCAR Ford teams – along with Chevy and Toyota – will race south of the border next season.
The race marks the first point-paying Cup Series race to take place outside the U.S. in the sport’s history. Scheduled for June 15th, 2025, the race will be held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. The Xfinity Series will also race that weekend in Mexico City. Fans of the Cup Series should tune into Prime Video to watch the event, while the Xfinity Series will be broadcast on The CW.
“This has been on our radar for a long time,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR executive vice president, chief venue & racing innovation officer, in a press release. “We’ve been talking about the continued iteration of our schedule, right? You can go back a few years, went to new markets like Nashville and Austin, Texas. We went to the Coliseum for the Clash. … We went to our first street race in downtown Chicago, and this is going to be another first for us in a lot of ways. This is going to be certainly a monumental event for us, the first time we’re going south of the border.”
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez features road course and oval configurations. The road course is 2.674 miles long with 17 turns and a 7,342 foot elevation. It was updated in 2015 and has hosted the F1 Mexico City Grand Prix. At this time, NASCAR has not announced whether it will race on the oval circuit or the road course.
While the Mexico City race will be a first for the Cup Series, it marks the Xfinity Series’ return to the country. The division raced at the Hermanos Rodriguez course in 2005 through 2008. Three current Cup Series veterans boast wins at this course, including Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch.
