NASCAR Ford Driver Joey Logano Fined For Aggression On Pit Road

Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, has been fined $50,000 for showing aggression on Pit Road after being wrecked by the No. 3 Chevy Camaro ZL1 of Austin Dillon on the last lap at Richmond on August 11th, 2024.

The fine is detailed in the latest penalty report posted on NASCAR.com. After the race, Logano spun the tires of the No. 22 Mustang in front of Dillon’s crew and family on Pit Road in frustration. Dillon had bumped Logano out of the way on the last lap, sending Logano spinning from the lead. Dillon then dove low and did the same to Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Toyota TRD Camry, before going on to win the race. Logano, meanwhile, finished 19th.

Logano’s actions were found to be in violation of the NASCAR member code of conduct for compromising the safety of others. He was only fined and was not assessed any points penalties.

Dillon, on the other hand, was penalized rather heavily for wrecking Logano and Hamlin on the last lap. Officials determined that the heavy contact between the No. 3 Camaro and No. 22 Mustang was intentional on Dillon’s part and therefore in violation of Section 12.3.2.1.b of the NASCAR Rule Book, which refers to playoff eligibility and states: “Race finishes must be unencumbered by violation(s) of the NASCAR Rules or other action(s) detrimental to stock car auto racing or NASCAR as determined in the sole discretion of NASCAR.”

Dillon’s win stands, but his Playoff eligibility was nullified. He was also fined 25 points in both the drivers’ and owners’ championships, dropping him from 26th in points back down to 31st. Officials also stated that rescinding Dillon’s Playoff eligibility also extends to the drivers’ and owners’ championships. Dillon’s spotter, Brandon Benesch, was also suspended for three races after instructing Dillon to “wreck him” as he raced Logano and Hamlin.

Fair you can’t just take a run at someone’s family and get away with it

It amazes me that Dillon could say that that is what he had to do to win, praises God for it! His walk sure doesn’t match his talk! Poor excuse for a man. He’s lucky Logano didn’t rearrange his facial structure. And then he takes out Hamlin too. NASCAR should have suspended him for the remainder of the season.

He wasn’t fined for aggression – it was for his abject stupidity. Dumb move.
