Celebrating a victory can get pretty intense, especially if said victory is the first in a race car driver’s career. Layne Riggs, driver of the No. 38 NASCAR Ford F-150, took things a little too far in Victory Lane at the Milwaukee Mile on August 25th, 2024 – he dislocated his shoulder pumping his fist after winning.
Riggs exited his race truck and climbed atop it to celebrate his win, but he doubled over in pain after throwing his arms toward the sky. His crew was already on-site after the race and quickly surrounded Riggs, guiding him off the race truck before they helped pop his shoulder back into its socket. Riggs immediately shot back to his feet and resumed celebrating without missing a beat.
“Dislocated my shoulder, I was celebrating so hard, but it was worth it,” Rigg admitted.

During the race, Riggs took the lead from fellow NASCAR Ford driver, Ty Majeski, demoting the No. 98 F-150 to second place as the laps wound down. He held his lead throughout the last 53 laps, finishing 1.547 seconds ahead of Majeski at the line – a dominating victory certainly worth the overzealous celebration.
“I don’t even know how to describe it,” said Riggs. “It’s awesome. We’ve had a terrible year, it’s been an awful year, but I’ve learned so much though in my rookie season. After the start I thought there’s no way we’re going to get a win, we’ll do the best we can and just learn for next year. But I knew in practice this thing [today] was awesome.”
Riggs is not Playoffs eligible, meaning he cannot compete for the championship. Majeski was the highest-finishing Playoff driver, earning valuable points toward the 2024 Truck Series title.
