New Lincoln inventory levels have been hovering near the top of the entire automotive industry for some time now, which is a big shift from the past few years, when new vehicles of any kind were difficult to find. This has also been true of the Ford brand, though it finally dipped below a 100 days’ supply of inventory in July 2024 for the first time in months, which is a positive sign for The Blue Oval. However, its luxury arm didn’t fare quite as well, as new Lincoln inventory levels remain far above the industry average.
According to new data from Cox Automotive, Lincoln was one of just two automotive brands with inventory levels that were at least double the industry average of 68 days’ supply in July 2024, along with Ram. Unfortunately for Lincoln, this is nothing new, as that particular brand had a days’ supply of inventory that was more than double the industry average for many months until it finally dipped below that threshold in February. Last month, Lincoln had a 145 days’ supply of inventory, too.
As for the overall market, it experienced a significant 43 percent drop in days’ supply of new vehicle inventory versus June, with 2.79 million units of unsold vehicles sitting on dealer lots. According to Cox Automotive, the cyberattack suffered by CDK Global is at least partly to blame, as created some volatility in the reporting of sales and days’ supply across its data sets. Regardless, the number of unsold vehicles available at the end of July was 3.6 percent lower than the conclusion of June.
As far as average list pricing for new vehicles goes, that figure came in at $47,307 at the end of July, which is $159 lower than the same month in 2023. That number is expected to continue its downward trend moving forward as incentive spending continues to increase, however.
