We’ve known for some time that the next-generation Ford E-Transit is in the works, which came as no surprise given the fact that the existing EV van has quickly found its fair share of customers in the commercial fleet space. As Ford Authority reported back in January 2023, the next-generation Ford E-Transit was reportedly slated to launch in 2026 and was also rumored to be built at the Ohio Assembly plant rather than the Kansas City Assembly plant where it’s currently produced. Turns out, that report was rather accurate.
The Blue Oval announced today that the “rollout of Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles begins with a commercial van that will be assembled at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant starting in 2026,” to be specific. The automaker didn’t come out and officially say that this product will be the second-generation Ford E-Transit, but the timing makes perfect sense, for a number of reasons.
Along with the aforementioned report, Ford’s new master contract agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW) reached last fall included a future product roadmap stating that an “all-new EV van” was slated to be added to the assembly line at the Ohio plant, which currently builds and will continue to build medium duty trucks, the Ford Super Duty, and the Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab models, in fact.
Though global demand for EVs has thus far lagged behind expected levels of growth, Ford has been adamant that its new EV van remains on track, which makes sense given the fact that commercial customers have thus far gravitated more toward all-electric vehicles than retail consumers. In fact, as Ford Authority reported earlier today, the next-generation Ford F-150 has been delayed yet again, while the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator EVs for North America were canceled altogether.
We’ll have more on the next-generation Ford E-Transit soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Transit news and non-stop Ford news coverage.
