Back in April, The Blue Oval announced that production of the next-generation Ford F-150 EV – which may or may not continue to be called the Ford F-150 Lightning – was being delayed at the under-construction, wholly-owned BlueOval City Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center, from 2025 to 2026. At the time, the automaker said that this move was being made amid a shift in consumer demand, meaning that it felt like its resources were better served ramping up hybrid production amid growing sales in that segment. Now, the next-generation Ford F-150 EV has been delayed yet again.
Today, FoMoCo announced that production of the next-generation Ford F-150 EV – code-named Project T3 – has been delayed for a second time, to the second-half of 2027. The automaker noted that it’s working on taking all of the feedback it has received from F-150 Lightning customers to make a better product in that regard, with “features and experiences never seen on any Ford truck” – a list that includes bi-directional charging capability and advanced aero.
This delay also intends to take advantage of falling battery prices as the market continues to take shape, which the automaker is capitalizing on by developing its own low-cost EV platform that figures to benefit the next-generation Ford F-150 EV.
Meanwhile, Ford CEO Jim Farley has provided us with a few clues as to what we can expect from the future F-150 EV, noting that it has futuristic styling that’s reminiscent of “a Millennium Falcon with a porch attached,” referencing the legendary space vessel from Star Wars. Farley also noted that the next-gen F-150 EV will be a superior option to the Tesla Cybertruck, calling it “one of the most thrilling vehicles I have ever seen in my career. Let me be specific. Stunning performance, like no truck has ever performed, ability, unexpected innovation for truck customers far beyond the normal truck attributes; a super flexible cabin that feels like a lounge or a tiny office.”

Delaying the Lightning again until 2027…..again, Farley missing the mark.
Ford needs to stop with the EV trucks, and make an affordable EV first, car and small SUV to get into the EV race. They are so behind as it is and dealying things even more, they will be out of it by the time they release an EV in 2026-2027.
