No. 28 Xfinity NASCAR Ford Levied L1-Level Penalty

The No. 28 NASCAR Ford team of Kyle Sieg has been issued an L1-level penalty following the Xfinity Series race at Daytona on August 23rd, 2024.

As per the latest penalty report on NASCAR.com, Sieg’s No. 28 Ford Mustang Dark Horse failed inspection at Daytona. The race car was found to have unapproved body panel modifications. Specifically, officials found the violations in prerace inspection, citing Sections 14.4.A and 14.4.11 C&D in the NASCAR Rule Book. These sections refer to the body and rear bumper cover extensions for superspeedway events. Beyond that, however, NASCAR did not specify what was wrong with the race car, or what modifications had been made.

Sieg’s No. 28 Mustang, which is fielded by RSS Racing with crew chief Joe Williams on the box, was docked 20 overall points and five Playoff points in their respective standings. Williams was also fined $25,000. Sieg’s team was not the only one found to be in violation of the aforementioned rules, as the No. 27 Chevy Camaro SS of Jeb Burton and the No. 45 Camaro of Caesar Bacarella were also found with illegally modified body panels. These teams were hit with the same penalty as Sieg’s NASCAR Ford team.

Sieg finished 15th in the Xfinity Series race at Daytona. After the penalties, he is ranked 24th in the overall point standings. He is unlikely to make the postseason Playoffs, which will include just 12 drivers from the division.

Sieg has not had a great run over the last few weeks. At Michigan on August 17th, 2024, Sieg was involved in a multicar incident that sent his No. 28 Mustang sideways on the back stretch. The race car flipped several times before coming to a rest on all four wheels in the infield grass, but thankfully, Seig was unharmed in the incident.
