No. 28 Xfinity NASCAR Ford Mustang Blows Over At Michigan: Video

In a last-lap incident that would have looked more at home on a superspeedway like Daytona, the No. 28 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse of Kyle Sieg went up and over on the backstretch during the Xfinity Series race at Michigan on August 17th, 2024.

A late-race rain delay and caution set the stage for an Overtime finish on the two-mile oval track on Saturday. After the white flag waved to signal the final lap, Sieg was involved in a multicar incident that sent him skidding down the backstretch alongside the No. 81 Toyota TRD Supra of Chandler Smith. Sieg’s No. 28 NASCAR Ford got sideways, allowing air to get underneath the race car and flip him upside down.

Sieg wrecked into the grass on the backstretch, which sent him for another roll before coming to a rest on all four tires. Sieg was able to exit the race car under his own power, and was promptly transported to the infield care center, where he was evaluated and released a short while later.

Sieg, who competes in the Xfinity Series on a part-time basis, recounted the crash in a postrace interview.

“[The crash was] very scary. I closed my eyes when I started to flip upside down,” Sieg said. “Other than that, I’m alright, got a little pain in my right arm. Just got the wind knocked out of me… You’re rolling upside down, hoping it was going to stop. Thought I was going to land upside down. Luckily, it landed upright. Don’t want to do it again, but it’s part of stepping behind the wheel. You never know. Just glad I’m alright.”

Sieg was credited with a 28th-place finish. Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 Chevy Camaro SS went on to win, while the best result for The Blue Oval was sixth, earned by Noah Gragson in the No. 30 Mustang.
