After Ford announced that it had signed a deal with Tesla granting its EV owners access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, essentially every other automaker that sells all-electric vehicles in the U.S. followed suit. These decisions make perfect sense given the fact that the Supercharger network is the largest of its kind, as well as the most reliable, according to owners and various studies. However, it seems as if now, months after those announcements were made, only two non-Tesla companies are currently providing access to those chargers.
According to The New York Times, those companies are Ford and Rivian, though it’s not entirely clear why that is the case. General Motors previously expected to complete its software coordination with Tesla by this past spring, but now, it plans on having that process complete later in 2024 – after which other automakers are expected to follow.
Even though Ford and Rivian owners can utilize the Supercharger network, they must use an adapter to do so, and that particular part has also faced its fair share of availability issues as of late. In fact, orders for this NACS adapter opened up in late February, and owners of Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E models are eligible to get one for free. However, as Ford Authority reported in April, The Blue Oval quickly began emailing customers to inform them that their adapter had been delayed due to supply chain issues.
That problem continued into June and even early this month, though the automaker issued a statement noting that it was still shipping NACS adapters to Ford EV owners, and shortly thereafter, it extended the deadline for owners to secure their free adapter, after which it will be sold for a retail price of $230. In the meantime, those that own a non-Ford EV wishing to use that same adapter have since found that this combination doesn’t work – presumably, for software- related reasons, though production of that adapter has picked up as of late.

CEO Farley, who I know doesn’t read this stuff. Why haven’t you improved the 2 EVs you have? Charge time and NACS charging? It’s two of the worst features that need help.
and VERY FEW Ford owners can actually use the Tesla Charger as the much promised tesla adapter is non existent for most Ford owners. PROMISES PROMISES PROMISES !
