Supercars Ford Team Wants Investigation For Postrace Push

Tickford Racing, the Supercars Ford team that fields the No. 55 Ford Mustang GT for Thomas Randle and the No. 6 Mustang of Cam Waters, is pushing for an investigation into a postrace incident that occurred after Race 18 at Symmons Plains Raceway on August 18th, 2024. The altercation involved Randle and Triple Eight Race Engineering Team Manager, Mark Dutton, in the garage.

For some background, Randle contacted the No. 87 Chevy Camaro of Broc Feeney while racing for position, causing Feeney to spin and plummet in the standings. Randle was handed a 15 second penalty for the on-track crash and ultimately finished 18th. According to a report from Supercars.com, Randle went to the Triple Eight garage to apologize to Feeney for spinning him out. Dutton confronted Randle, however, and physically blocked him from entering the garage.

Jamie Whincup, a racer himself and current Managing Director of Triple Eight, intervened, and Randle walked away from the garage without speaking to Feeney.

“I just wanted to go apologize to Broc, but I think he’d gone to the truck, so I think they’re going to go and grab him and I’ll go apologize, that’s all I can really do,” Randle said. “Dutton’s got some invisible line there, Jamie was fine, so he’s all good, all you can do is apologize and move on.”

Tickford Racing felt the confrontation on Dutton’s part was out of line, and reached out to Motorsport Australia to plead for an investigation.

“Motorsport Australia has received correspondence from Tickford regarding a post-race incident in pit lane at this weekend’s Supercars event in Tasmania,” a Motorsport Australia spokesperson stated. “We will now work with the relevant parties to determine the next steps and if any further action will be taken.”

Far better cars and racing than NASCAR, hands down.

Agreed. When I told my buddies that Shane was going to win the first Chicago Cup Street race, they laughed at me. They weren’t laughing the next day.
