Tesla Supercharger Ranks First In 2024 EV Charging Survey

Having been around for a while now, it’s not terribly surprising that the Tesla Supercharger network continues to rank as a superior option versus other third-party networks in various studies. Just last year, the Tesla Supercharger network ranked first in J.D. Power’s 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Public Charging Study, in fact, which is a big part of the reason why Ford – and then just about every other automaker that builds EVs – signed a deal that gives its EV owners access to that network. Now, Tesla has once again claimed the top spot in J.D. Power’s 2024 EVX Study.

In the 2024 EVX Study, the Tesla Supercharger network once again ranked first with a score of 743, which is two points lower than 2023, but still good enough to beat out second place ChargePoint by a large margin, as it scored 627 points out of a possible 1,000. Non-Tesla owners weren’t quite as satisfied with the Supercharger network, giving it a score of 706, but that’s still 42 points higher than the competition, regardless. J.D. Power notes that this gap can be blamed on the differences in the ease of payment and charging, which requires extra steps for those that don’t own a Tesla vehicle, at least for now, and it also requires that they use a special adapter.

“Overall, both Tesla and non-Tesla owners find charging their vehicles at Tesla Supercharger facilities is most satisfying,” said Brent Gruber, executive director of the EV practice at J.D. Power. “Non-Tesla owners – like those with EVs from Ford or Rivian who now have access to the Supercharger network – appreciate the ability to charge at the broad network of Tesla chargers that was previously unavailable to them. Despite the recent influx of non-Tesla vehicles into the Supercharger facilities – which has caused some grumbling – Tesla owners still appreciate the ease of charging and ease of payment that the network offers. However, since the beginning of the year, J.D. Power has seen a decline in satisfaction with the availability of Superchargers among Tesla owners.”

As Ford Authority previously reported, part of the frustration stemming from Ford EV owners comes from the fact that supply chain issues have caused delays in those same owners taking delivery of the adapter they need to access the Tesla Supercharger network. Regardless, The Blue Oval has responded by extending the deadline for those owners to order the free adapter, at least.

Perhaps we need an award for the most utterly pointless survey? OF COURSE Tesla is leading the entire industry. It has been since the beginning – not that you would know if you only listen to the mass-media and JD Power!!
