Updated Schedule Released For Supercars Ford Engine Tests

Ford has seemingly bounced back from parity issues that plagued The Blue Oval throughout the 2023 Australian Supercars Championship season, putting on a clinic throughout 2024 with the updated Gen3 Ford Mustang GT. To keep things sporting, the sanctioning body is hosting several engine testing sessions, and has recently released an updated schedule for said trials.

A report from Supercars.com reveals that the second phase engine tests have been postponed a few weeks to allow Ford and Chevy, the two manufacturers that currently compete in the Supercars Championship, ample time to analyze results from the phase one tests. This will give both manufacturers the opportunity to create and implement a successful plan for the forthcoming tests.

The tests will be conducted at the AVL facility in Detroit, Michigan. Representatives from Supercars, Ford team Dick Johnson Racing, Chevy team Triple Eight Racing, Ford itself, and General Motors will be present at the event, which will take place in late August.

“Phase one of our testing at AVL has gone very well,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard. “The GM and Ford units have been thoroughly tested, providing us with valuable data to compare and analyze. We’ve had great support from both Ford and GM, which has helped us to navigate some slight challenges successfully.”

He added, “There is a heap of data we are collectively now working through and we all agreed that to ensure we put the best possible test plan together for phase two, the best option is to push back the original schedule slightly.”

In addition to engine tests, the Gen3 race cars underwent wind tunnel testing in early 2024 at the Windshear campus in North Carolina. Last year, the Supercars Ford racers weren’t too happy with the aerodynamic package applied to their race cars, but considering that several Mustangs are in serious contention for the 2024 title, these concerns seem to be a thing of the past.
