Earlier this month, the mega popular YouTuber Cody Detwiler of the WhistlinDiesel channel made waves by subjecting his Tesla Cybertruck and a Ford F-150 to a grueling durability test that left both trucks in literal shambles. This was due to the fact that both pickups were driven over giant obstacles, strapped with explosives and blown up, and just generally abused in ways that most of us would never dream of. Now, Detwiler is back with another video addressing the most notable scene from that previous clip.
As most have seen by now, the Detwiler’s Cybertruck suffered some severe damage when it was attempting to pull the (prior-generation) Ford F-150 off a giant concrete pipe, after which the rear bumper and part of the EV pickup’s gigacasting was quite literally ripped off. Quite a few commenters chimed in and said that if the Ford F-150 had been subjected to the same sort of precarious drop, its frame would have also ripped into pieces as well.
Thus, Detwiler decided to put that theory to the test while his Cybertruck is in the shop getting roughly $12,000 in repairs. To do this, he drops the Ford F-150 five feet onto concrete blocks – multiple times – but not just by driving it off of that proverbial cliff. Rather, Detwiler rented an excavator to do the dirty work and repeatedly drop the truck and its hitch on those blocks to see just what might happen.
The hitch obviously didn’t come off, but the rest of the F-150 didn’t fare so well after more than two dozen blows – the entire frame is bent, and as one might imagine, the tailgate comes off as well. Regardless, the frame doesn’t break, which is notable given the rather concerning damage the Cybertruck endured after just one similar test.
