Xfinity NASCAR Ford Teams Short At Summer Daytona Race: Video

In proper Daytona fashion, the Xfinity Series race on Friday, August 23^rd, 2024 was constantly interrupted by yellow flags for on-track incidents, driving the race to an Overtime finish in the closing laps. While two NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse racers finished inside the top five, they fell short at the line as a pair of Toyotas streaked toward the yellow / checkered flags to claim the top two spots.

Riley Herbst’s No. 98 Mustang was the best of The Blue Oval. He crossed the line fourth after an early race incident with his teammate, Cole Custer. Herbst made contact with Custer’s No. 00 Mustang during the first round of pit stops, and while Herbst got off with light damage, Custer’s race car wasn’t as lucky. He had to constantly pit throughout the rest of the race to address the damage, ultimately finishing 32^nd after he had to retire due to NASCAR’s damaged vehicle policy. Prior to the race at Daytona, Custer was 50 points ahead of Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 7 Chevy Camaro SS, in the point standings. Now, though, he’s 33 points behind Allgaier.

Ryan Sieg’s No. 39 Mustang finished fifth. The next-best NASCAR Ford driver was the No. 29 Mustang of Blaine Perkins all the way in 14^th, followed by the No. 28 Mustang of Kyle Sieg in 15^th. Herbst was the only Blue Oval driver to lead a lap.

Overall, there were 19 lead changes among six drivers throughout the race. Cautions slowed the field seven times, accounting for 34 laps. Ryan Truex, driver of the No. 19 Toyota TRD Supra, was the victor.
