The first-generation Ford Explorer was truly a trend-setting vehicle, one that laid the foundation for many more crossovers and SUVs to follow. However, that particular model wasn’t really something most would consider collectible, given how many of them are still out there on the roads, though that’s quickly changing. In fact, we’ve seen quite a few nice, low-mile first-gen Ford Explorer models surface for sale at auction recently, and that now includes this stellar 1994 Sport.
Up for auction at Bring a Trailer, this 1994 Ford Explorer Sport has just 65k miles on the clock and has lived with just two owners so far. The Oxford White paint – accompanied by black lower cladding – is in good condition, but the SUV was involved in an accident back in 2010 that caused some damage to the right rear section. Additionally, there’s a rust spot on the lower left quarter panel, too. Otherwise, this Explorer remains in solid condition overall.
That’s true of the interior, which features Royal Blue cloth seats, cruise control, power windows and locks, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. However, some of the radio buttons don’t work, the speakers are dry-rotted, and the rear hatch latch insulators need to be replaced. Under the hood, one will find the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.0L V6, which was factory rated to send 160 horsepower to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
This 1994 Ford Explorer Sport joins a host of others that we’ve seen cross various auction blocks as of late, many of which have traveled few miles over the past several decades. That list includes a few from the same model year, including an XLT with 51k miles, another XLT with 58k miles, and an Explorer Sport with 68k miles, which sold at auction only to resurface yet again a few months later with a few more miles on the clock.
