Of the many interesting Special Vehicles Team (SVT) models created over the years, the Ford Contour SVT is easily one of the most obscure. The now-defunct performance-focused group is most well-known for vehicles like the Mustang Cobra and F-150 SVT Lightning and Raptor, but the Ford Contour SVT is an ultra-rare, more potent version of the now-defunct sedan that we certainly don’t see very often these days. However, there have been a few nice, low-mile Ford Contour SVT models that have popped up for sale as of late, and that now includes this 46k-mile example.
This 2000 Ford Contour SVT is currently up for auction at Cars & Bids, and it’s a two-owner car that has zero modifications present, which are big bonuses. It’s finished in Silver Frost Metallic, albeit, with a few flaws that include some scuffs on the front lip and spoiler, Â scratches and blemishes in the paint in various places, a crack in the windshield, and some rust present in the wheel wells.
Inside the cabin, there are some creases on the Midnight Blue leather sport seats, plus some warped and separated trim here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary for a vehicle of this vintage. Otherwise, one will find some welcome amenities that include power windows and locks, an AM/FM/CD stereo, air conditioning, and cruise control. The main attraction, however, is what lies under the hood – the SVT-modified 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, which was factory-rated to generate 200 horsepower and 169 Â pound-feet of torque, flowing to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
It was just around a month ago that we came across our last Ford Contour SVT that was up for auction – a 1998 model with 11k miles on the clock – but these machines aren’t exactly common these days. Prior to that, we also saw a modified 2000 model pop up for sale around two years ago, as well as another 2000 Contour SVT with 16k miles last year.

My wife bought a 1999 Contour SVT when new.
Our 20 yr old son loved it so much that he bought a 2000 Contour SVT new, instead of a used Mustang.
Both were 200 HP, but the 2000 model had less Cu. In, and less torque. It had to be under 2000 cc, due to import rules.
Both were great cars!
I would rather have a 1995 Contour SE 5spd, honestly.
Ford Contour & Mercury Mystique, were both great cars for the Car Rental Industry.
Along with, Ford Taurus & Mercury Sable, Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar.
