The 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R represented the ultimate, hardcore, track-focused, no-frills version of the iconic pony car in its heyday, instantly cementing its status in automotive history. Just 300 were built in total, making it a rare and valuable machine as well, but we’ve seen a few pop up for sale in recent years, regardless. Now, those that covet this very special model have another one to bid on, too.
This 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer with 10k miles on the clock, which is actually more than most, but still not what anyone would consider a lot. It was previously exported to Europe, interestingly enough, and now it’s being offered for sale by the current owner, who resides in the United Kingdom. As such, it’s been fitted with UK-compliant headlights, though the originals are being included in the sale.
There are a few paint chips up front and a scuff in the rear bumper, though the interior remains in great condition. A set of anti-roll bars were added a few years ago, as was a Borla exhaust, but otherwise, this Cobra R remains stock. As is the case with all 300 examples built, it’s powered by the naturally-aspirated 5.4L V8 Triton engine that is rated to produce 385 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque, mated to a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
While it has a few flaws and a couple of mods, this 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra remains intriguing, regardless, though we’ve certainly seen nicer ones – including a flawless 500-mile example that crossed the auction block nearly two years ago. Just a couple of months later, it was joined by another Cobra R with a rather high 32k miles on the clock, too.
