Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023-2024Â Ford Transit models over incorrect information on the vehicles’ incomplete B-pillar label.
The defect:Â in affected vehicles, the incomplete B-pillar label and the label on the incomplete vehicle document overstate the front gross axle weight rating of the vehicle. The labels incorrectly list the front gross axle weight rating as 2,100 kilograms. The proper front gross axle weight rating is 1,875 kilograms.
The hazards: frequent and extended use of an affected vehicle loaded to a front gross axle weight rating above design capacity may lead to a failure of the front steering knuckles. If the front steering knuckles fail, partial loss of steering may result, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle is overloaded, the customer may notice a rough ride and poor handling.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: incomplete B-pillar label, incomplete vehicle manual label.
Affected vehicles:Â select 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles produced between December 1st, 2023, and June 30th, 2024.
Number of vehicles affected: 373
The fix: dealers will replace the incomplete vehicle label and the incomplete vehicle document label with labels displaying the correct front gross axle weight rating. This service will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will began on August 27th, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S53.
